ABOUT LISA THARP DESIGN

The firm’s work has been featured by leading national and international publications, television, books, and honored with successive Institute of Classical Architecture & Art Bulfinch Awards for Interior Design, EcoHome Award for The Concord Green Healthy Home, Luxe Gold, Best of Boston Home, and Metropolis magazine's Planet Positive Award for Lisa Tharp Colors, an organic designer paint collection with ECOS Paints. Headquartered on Newbury Street in Boston, the firm is available for projects globally.

BOSTON TOWNHOUSE - Beacon Hill, Boston, Massachusetts

Classic detailing, luxe surfaces and finishes, and color transform this 1899 Boston townhouse into a hip family home. The design team renovated what was a developer’s all-white modernization into a rich mix of smart space planning, new millwork, custom and vintage furnishings, and European lighting. A new collection of contemporary art was curated specifically for the residence.

The living room is elevated with new paneling and an Art Deco-inspired mantel in Violetta marble.

Artwork above the banquette is Amsterdam Ave by Sean Flood. Artwork above the fireplace is Lead Painting with Numbers by Maggi Brown. Artwork above the slipper chair is Job in Despair by Marc Chagall. The sculpture on the game table is My Own Journey by Gustavo Torres.

The nursery was created by adding a new wall with pocket doors, and is wrapped in a striking and classical mural.

Artwork above the chair outside the nursery is Neverland by Hunt Slonem.

The family room features a restored circular sectional in deep purple.

Artwork above the sofa is Midnight Blue by Elizabeth Dacosta Ahern.

Cross-hatched caramel walls provide a warm backdrop for a striking salon-style gallery installation around the television.

Artwork at right side of the wall is Finkl Forge II by Richard Serra. Artwork at the center of the wall (bottom), is Black Fields VI, 1980 by Ruth Eckstein. Artwork at the center of the wall (top), is Recalling a Memory by Lisa Tharp. Artwork at the left side of the wall is Meldedruthvariouslyabout by Stanley Boxer. The sculpture on the cabinets is Geometriker by Thomas Junghans.

Mica-infused walls cocoon the new arched dining alcove, which now seats up to 20 guests as it preserves traffic flow in the home’s central core. It features a custom vegan leather banquette and 11’ glossy table.

Artwork above the banquette is Memories of a Voyage by Enrico Pinardi.

The main bedroom is a study in quiet repose, with silky refinement dressing the walls, ceiling, windows and half-tester bed.

Artwork above the nightstand is Nature Song by Henry Botkin. Artwork near the built-ins is Sketch of a Woman I by Fia Tharp.

The breakfast area is clad in an ivory parchment finish.

Artwork on the wall is Golden Rule by Hunt Slonem. A bronze sculpture, Prima Luce, by Thomas Junghans tops a skyscraper-style pedestal in dark walnut.

Artwork on the kitchen tile backsplash is ‘Scarf coat handbag long hair two shopping bags blonde bob puffer jacket hooded coat leather bag.’ by Julian Opie.
