The Mahjong Tea Room - “De Déjeuner à Dessert”

Adjacent to the kitchen lies an elegant tea room – a space for the lady of the house to socialize over a game of Mahjong or enjoy a sumptuous high tea in style. In a nod to the home’s traditional architecture, the room is full of classic design elements that are married with contemporary pieces to create a space that’s current, fresh and full of grace.

The light-filled room is enveloped in soothing sage tones with a hand painted de Gournay wallpaper of jasmine and bougainvillea trailing down from the ceiling. The contemporary center table in wire-brushed white oak grounds the room and is surrounded by dining chairs upholstered in a soft wool sateen. A palm chandelier with a white plaster finish hangs above as a focal point. The floors are hand painted with a geometric pattern to add texture and visual interest. Classic silk window coverings finish the space, creating the perfect room for enjoying everything from Parisian pastries to parlor games and Pekoe tea.

ABOUT DINA BANDMAN

Known for her bold yet traditional aesthetic and exquisite collaborations with de Gournay, Dina Bandman’s design embraces all of the influences of the places she’s been lucky to call home -- New York Traditional, California Cool, Southern Charm and Miami Art Deco. With unparalleled attention to detail, she creates tailored spaces with quiet maximalism, beautifully edited with personalities as individual as her clients. Although based in San Francisco, Dina’s projects span the four corners of the US with projects in New York, Florida, Jackson Hole, and Seattle. The veteran of six Decorator Showcases (this will be her 7th), her award-winning designs have been featured in numerous design publications including Architectural Digest, House Beautiful, Traditional Home, Luxe Magazine, California Homes, Modern Luxury Interiors, Nob Hill Gazette and Marin Magazine. When not designing (which is rare), Dina enjoys reading New York Times bestsellers on her Kindle and going on walks with her intrepid schmorkie, Gypsy.

ABOUT THE SAN FRANCISCO DECORATOR SHOWCASE

The story of the San Francisco Decorator Showcase began in 1977, when Nan Rosenblatt, a former San Francisco University High School parent and an accomplished interior designer, and Philip Fernandez, the first president of the school’s Parents Association, conceived the first Showcase to raise funds for University’s financial aid program. In its first year, the Showcase netted $26,000, and today this prestigious event raises over $600,000 annually. This year’s event will be held at 625 El Camino Del Mar, located in San Francisco’s scenic Sea Cliff neighborhood. Built in 1927 by renowned architects Hyman and Appleton, the home is a magnificent example of 18th-century Mediterranean Spanish architecture with impressive views of the San Francisco Bay, Golden Gate Bridge and Marin Headlands.

Tickets may be purchased here with all proceeds benefiting the San Francisco University High School’s financial aid program.
